I woke up this morning with the Hebrew word “derek” on my heart. With this in mind, I decided to look into first mention. Of course, it appears quite early – in Genesis. Chapter 3 to be specific. Coincidentally, I was just there yesterday in a much lengthier study that I’m doing on another topic.
This word derek, when translated to
English, means way, road or path. At first mention, it appears in a very tough
place - Adam and Eve’s banishment from the Garden of Eden. “Yahweh drove out the man, and at the east of the
garden of Eden He placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way
to guard the *way* to the tree of life.”
Please
note, the way to the tree of life was now guarded and protected. Man would not have
the freedom to walk up to it again, in this period of time. He mishandled the
freedom and privilege and willingly became a transgressor. We know that Yeshua
(Jesus) became the Way. His life, death, resurrection and Great High Priestly
function became both the Way (our one Example: 1 Peter 2:21) for us to walk and
the Way back to eternal life (John 14:6).
Fast
forward to Revelation chapter 22 and we see the Tree of Life again. The Book of
prophecies concludes here, revealing that the Tree of Life will be in the midst
of New Jerusalem. It is bearing fruit here, in this future age, and its leaves
are for the healing of the nations. Here we see a small glimpse of everything
coming full circle. The righteous inhabitants of Zion will be given access to
this Tree. There will be a way back to It once more. Covenantal promises will
become fulfilled!
Yahweh,
in His great kindness and mercy will bring all things back to His original
plan. It is an incredibly long and wearisome road to get there, yet He is patient
and endures long with humanity. There is a way to approach eternal life,
friend. But as the biblical pattern reveals from beginning to end, it must be
on Father’s terms, not ours. He sent His Son Yeshua (Jesus) to literally become
*The Way*. The Way back. Back into intimacy with our Creator, as He intended.
He is good. Selah. - J
Malachi
3:1 Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And Yahweh whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he
is coming, says Yahweh of Hosts.
