To Walk in the Light

 

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of His Son Yeshua purifies us from all sin.

If we follow the biblical uses of “light”, just one of its many uses can be found when referencing the Torah of Yahweh – His laws, His instructions. Despite modern doctrines promoting that the Creator’s laws were a “burdensome load that no man can bear” that has been “done away with” because it was somehow “meager”, righteous men that preceded us knew that they were a life-giving Light (see Psalm 119, for example). Righteous men and even the very Son of Elohim Himself teach us this repeatedly.

Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp and the torah is light; and rebukes for discipline are the way of life.

Allow me to ask you, in light of our main text today – how did Yeshua (Jesus) become Who He did? What provided Him the authority to become Saviour, Rescuer, Deliverer and ultimately, Great High Priest? Was He given some sort of super-human advantage where operated above His flesh or did He learn obedience? (See Hebrews 5:8 for the answer.)

The Son did not sin, of course, but what did that mean? He obeyed. What specifically did He obey? What caused Him to be our set apart Example that we are commanded to follow? He obeyed His Father’s perfect Torah. Many want to “walk like Jesus” but have completely overlooked this primary facet of how we are to do so. I did this myself for over forty five years of my life. I did not have eyes to see. Ironically, I would say that I was in darkness to the Full Gospel. I had not yet walked “in the light” as my Messiah did.

The Torah of Elohim (God) that was, and now is, is a light! Thereby, Yeshua (Jesus) walked in the light and equally showed us how to also! Obedience to Father’s Ways causes His children to walk in the light, as he Himself is in the light! If we believe the text, this will also allow us to walk in fellowship with others doing likewise. And then, the light grows! Upon doing so, we literally become a city on a hill to all who have eyes to see!

Today, in a world of darkness that presents itself as false light, how do we know what is the Spirit of Truth that comes from the Father? It must agree with what defined Father’s Ways to our Forerunner, Firstborn of many brethren - the Torah of Yahweh – the Light! The entire Newer Testament is quoting the Torah and the Prophets. Paul, James, Titus, Yeshua (Jesus) Himself – all were declaring the way to walk had already been given. The only issue was man’s ignorance and rebellion. The New Covenant prophecies of Jeremiah and Ezekiel had begun to come into view within the Perfect One, Yeshua (Jesus) Who chose to obey and therefore, He became the physical representation of Yahweh's light - the Light of the world. When we walk in *this* pattern – walking in the light as He is in the light - we too can offer Yahweh’s Salvation to all men.

May Father continue to give us eyes to see His marvelous Ways! He alone is trustworthy. "He is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all." (1 John 1:5) Selah. - J
