Tradition: The handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from generation to generation, especially by word of mouth or by practice; A long-established or inherited way of thinking or acting; A belief that is generally followed by the majority
The next time you’d like to personally experience what Messiah was dealing with when He encountered the traditions of the teachers of His age, tell Christians that you don’t celebrate Christmas, but instead memorialize the Feasts of Yahweh that are commanded in the Bible. You will quickly understand a tad of what He encountered with the non-believing leaders who clung to their own law and traditions at all costs. There are some things that you're just supposed to leave alone.
We’re not called to exit the patterns of this world only in order to partake in the religious traditions of mixed culture. Messiah did not enable us to only leave behind traditions of sin and self, but also the man-made traditions of man’s religious endeavors and decrees.
Traditions are so incredibly powerful. Ask yourself if you do what you do because it is right and best in the eyes of Yahweh (according to Him and His Word) or merely out of tradition. Just like one’s former way of sin and selfish living (carnality), until you come out and are set free, you generally don’t even know the bondage that you were within.
That’s what deception does. That’s what deception is. It provides false peace and a replacement, placebo-effect of sorts. I have stated for years now – the biblical pattern is clear. When people abandon Yahweh’s Ways, they create their own. This goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Nothing is new.
In like manner, we’re also free to walk as we desire. Any man can justify any thing, if he chooses. But, we will be held accountable for it all. My hope is that we all consider our ways and don’t fall prey to the traditions of our fathers, merely passing on practices that bring us comfort and yet cause us to miss Father’s wonderful Ways. Let us not be like the non-believing Pharisees of Messiah’s day, who thought that Father’s Ways needed altered and “improved.” They were convinced that they had created the best way to live. Messiah came, confronted and said otherwise.
Let us all learn from what has unfolded before us. This age is no different. Same issues (selfishness). Same solution (humility.) Yes, there are traditions that we must cling to all costs. But we must take the time to search the Scriptures to discover what they are. We are not to simply follow the majority belief system and fear bucking the system. Ask tough questions. Study. Scrutinize what you do and why. Search the Word to find Father’s Ways and then lay down all that does not meet His criteria.
Isaiah 8:20 To the Torah and to the testimony! If they do not speak in accordance with this Word, it is because they have no light.
Jeremiah 6:16 This is what Yahweh says: “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; Then you will find a resting place for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
If you have any questions, please message and ask. We quietly exited the holidays of men 11 years ago now. It’s been a wonderful journey. We love to humbly share what Father, in His mercy, has led us to. We have a long way to go. - J
