In a recent family study, we spent some time looking into idolatry and why, biblically, it's such an abomination to the Most High.In our studies we saw yet another biblical theme come to the forefront. Many times, when the Bible speaks of distinguishing Yahweh from all other gods, He is referenced specifically as Creator. The works of His hands in Creation are often highlighted and His handiwork sets Him apart. Two examples:
Psalm 96:5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens.
Psalm 97:5-7 The mountains melted like wax at the presence of Yahweh, at the presence of the Master of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the peoples have seen His glory. May all those be ashamed who serve carved images, who boast in idols; worship Him, all you gods.
The heavens declare His glory! No man, no idol and surely no other god can do what Yahweh has done. Let us join with all of Creation and be clear that we are speaking of, remembering, worshipping and calling upon the name of Yahweh. There is none like Him for He made the heavens and the earth. Selah.
