Open-handed Faith

Excerpt from our ongoing Journeying Through the Old Testament study:

It's worth noting that the land full of sin and wickedness was also apparently fertile and great - “like the Garden of Elohim.” (Genesis 13:10&13) I have to wonder about the spiritual imagery here. Perhaps Lot fell into the same trap as Adam and Eve did. Perhaps he thought that he could have both blessing and his own way.
After Abram's humble exit from Egypt, perhaps he knew that being open-handed towards choosing where to dwell would position him in the best possible place – Yahweh’s choice for him. Perhaps by not choosing he knew that it would allow Father to do the choosing.
Lot chose according to what he could see with his natural eyes. Abram rested in allowing Yahweh to determine the decision, by his not choosing. This is often what true faith looks like.
