The Beautiful & Enticing Ways of the Evil Nations

Often, when we think about “the ways of the nations”, we likely envision dark and evil idol worship. Perhaps we remember how idolatrous nations would put their children into the fire. Maybe we think on how they would have altars to endless deities and perform rituals to them. Again, we probably envision something blatantly evil and dark.

But today, let us also remember that many idolatrous and evil nations were beautiful, abundant and enticing. Affluent living was the norm. Abundance of wealth and offerings for all of the cares of life were at every turn. Evil, idolatrous nations had their own festive holy days and a pantheon of gods that would cater to the needs of men. Egypt, for example, was overflowing with beauty, provision and lavish living. Sodom had everything that a man could ever want. But they were governed by the sinister and evil ways of men, sourced in darkness. Despite how things look on the outside, in the end, destruction and judgment comes.

This nation is no different, friend. False religion that opposes Yahweh’s commands for His People covers the land. All manner of evil abounds, it just often looks appealing and harmless. New holy days have been enacted and even branded as for “God’s people.” Man’s evil ways rule the masses and few even notice. It is what godless nations do, despite being wrapped up in abundance and comfort. The Passover account (as well as countless other references) reveals that Father desires a clear distinction – for Himself and for His People. I believe that this must be reclaimed! The biblical pattern discloses a pattern that we must highlight, notice and then give our attention to.

So, remember this today, won’t you? As you consider how to live – what to do and what to forsake. Don’t just look at the surface and only see supposed blessing, favor and temporal happiness. We must know - what is pleasing to and sourced in Yahweh? What is founded upon His Word and what He commands for His set apart People? We must know or we too will fall prey to the enchantments of this world, that come to us in our own backyard. Let us be a discerning people today and truly come out and be separate.
